Ekaterina is from St Petersburg Russia. She came to Denmark in 2013 with her husband and two teenage children when her husband found a position here as a database architect. Denmark was not their first choice and her husband had been offered positions elsewhere.
In Russia she lived with her family in a room in a shared apartment. She had various casual jobs – sometimes three at once. Her passion is painting and her dream has been to go to art school. This was not possible as she could not meet the strict school entrance requirements.
In Denmark she has a more comfortable life. She lives in a much larger apartment. Her husband still has a good job. She and her husband feel more at home in Denmark than in Russia. The move to Denmark has been hardest for her children because they have had to learn both Danish and English while going to school. Nevertheless her children are also glad to be here.
Ekaterina is focused at the moment on her Danish language course. She does not work at the moment but is a volunteer for Red Cross. In future she would like to be an aged care volunteer worker to both help others and practice her Danish. The move to Denmark has also reignited her dream to be an artist. She has begun painting and again would like to pursue her art school dream. She also hopes to one day have her own art gallery.
