Ali

Ali is a Kurdish refugee from Al-Malikiyah in Syria. He came to Denmark via Turkey in 2014 with his cousin to escape the conflict within Syria. He has been separated from his siblings who remain with his parents in Syria or have also been forced to flee to other countries.

When he first arrived in Denmark he spent several months within various asylum centres across Denmark. The local council has now provided him with an apartment that he shares with two other refugees and with temporary work experience where he can practice speaking Danish. In Syria he studied economics at university in Damascus.

Ali misses home but cannot return to Syria even to visit while the problems continue there. Nevertheless he wants to remain in Denmark.

The most important thing for him is to be able to work and be independent. Later he also hopes to restart his university education.
